Chinese state: Historically, there has been a powerful incentive for individuals to study Confucian classics because of larger political social incentive.

I wonder, is this the case again now with New Confucianism in China?

  1. I would guess that understanding the tenets of Confucianism is no longer a major (or even minor) part of the merit ("Civil Service") tests. But I think I heard a panelist say that China is still a meritocracy, so what do those tests look like now?
