I think where Confucianism "promotes" a set of duties/obligation/benevolence from the State --> subjects --> teachers --> parents --> children and the corollary expectation of obedience/respect back up the chain, the US alternative mostly removes the State and subjects from that equation leaving familial/tribe and Civil Society duties/obligations in its place. How's that for some an extreme generalization!
