Do we expect the United States government to be benevolent?
Fierce competition for top scores on placement exams.... doesn't that remind us of SATs?  Are we doing similar things, creating pressure for our young people?
We must look at how Confucianism is interpreted and question how its tenets fit our current societies and what we might discard.

Six adults looking out for the welfare and having aspirations of one child.  Great for nurturing and support but leads to pressure for Chinese students.

Dr. Ryan questions whether Confucianism is a religion.

Chinese state: Historically, there has been a powerful incentive for individuals to study Confucian classics because of larger political social incentive.

I wonder, is this the case again now with New Confucianism in China?
